20x30 ceramic tile with frame The Duchess of Amalfi
The work, composed with the usual multicolored technique that is the artist's hallmark, is a sketch on cardboard, created during the "Amalfi period". Mirkò, sensitive to the stories related to the places of his coast, inaugurates his exclusive gallery in the Piazza del Duomo in Amalfi, drawing inspiration from the tragic story of Joan of Aragon, an unfortunate noble who lived between the end of the 1400s and the beginning of the 1500s Arriving in Amalfi in marriage to a duke of the Piccolomini family, she soon became a widow, secretly remarrying one of her butlers. Her family, disapproving of the bond, has her killed along with her three children, after having kept her locked up in the Ziro tower, located on the Amalfi hills.
